I was eating the first peach of the season and opened my email to discover this video of my fantastic friend, Mary Lee. How can she be so far away, driving so fast when I think of her being so near. I speak whenever invited and the pinnacle of my talk is my passionate love for Mary Lee, so she is as close to me as a trekkie could imagine on the holideck.
I see you most days Mary Lee, hands above your head, chains around your waist, ready to agitate for my freedom, loving women more than the law allows. Now I will see you here and be jealous and happy and closer.
After 10 years of relationship that started with activism and continues with friendship that survives geographic distance, I wanted to create a blog that captures some of the stories, wisdom, writing and experiences of my friend, Mary Lee Sargent. She agreed.
Mary Lee has many friends (keeping them is one of her skills), and if you're one of them, I hope you'll comment on what you see here.
Mary Lee Sargent is a retired professor of history who now lives in Bow, New Hampshire with her partner, Ann.
Kimberlie Kranich is a documentarian who works for Illinois Public Media and lives in Champaign, IL.
